The PERMA-SNOW ski slope system consists of a ski carpet attached to
a base layer that is a resilient permeable shock absorbing
blanket of Enkadrain or a similar material laid and
fixed to a finished and levelled surface. The prepared
surface of the ski mound or natural geological hill
should consist of compacted gravel or other permeable
granular material. The granular material should be spread
over an underlay of Terram or other permeable earth
containing fabric used in the construction industry.
An earth containing underlay will substantially prevent
the possibility of mud in wet conditions invading the
skiing surface.
The construction of the ski slope should be engineered
to provide carrier drains with herring bone branches
laid in the ground beneath the earth retaining underlay
and granular bed. It is further recommended that the
granular bed is overlaid with a UV resistant fabric
covering before laying the shock absorbing base and
skiing surface. This method of construction gives extra
protection against any granular material interfering
with the resilience of the base fabric. The permeability
of the base fabric (Enkadrain or a similar product)
will shed water in extreme conditions and the permeable
underlay will allow any excess rainwater to drain away
to the surface water sewage system.
