News : PERMA-SNOW™ Launch

January 12, 2009 PERMA-SNOW™ selected by the O2 Arena for the Kiss 100 Slopes

Perma-SnowTM has been selected as the premier dry ski slope surface for London's first ever indoor artificial twin ski slope. The 45 metre twin dry ski slopes operate from November to January 09, visitors are able to ski, snowboard or sno-tube at The O2, and the crowds already attending are making it the London winter attraction. Visitors are able to learn to ski or snowboard on unique artificial surface called Perma-SnowTM and there are open practice sessions for those experienced skiers to warm up their ski/snowboard legs before heading to the mountains. Since the opening of the Kiss 100 Slopes in November the response has taken the O2 operators by surprise with incredible numbers attending. The new Perma-SnowTM surface has received great plaudits from novice and highly experienced professional skiers/boarders alike and demand shows no signs of slowing.

December 3rd, 2003
On December 3rd 2003, the 'Perma-snow™' system was laid on the nursery/intermediate slope at the Bracknell Ski and Snowboard Centre for public use. It is now one year since this introduction to the dry ski slope surface and accolades have been pouring in complimenting the characteristics of the surface. It is fast, soft and safe. It is a surface that is forgiving allowing a skier to ski as though on snow. Unlike the bristle, 'Perma-snow™' requires no lubrication to provide a ski-able surface due to the friction between the base of the ski or snowboard and the surface is minimal. Unlike the bristle, 'Perma-snow™' is kind to fallers due to the qualities of not having any metal in the upper structure or any stabbing filaments that can cause abrasion. In the 12 months of operation there have been no serious injuries; no minor injuries other than just a few bruises; and no third party liability claims against the operator.

Initial trials of the brand new ski carpet surface have been hailed a resounding success. The surface was laid on one of the ski slopes at the John Nike Leisuresport Centre in Bracknell in September, where skiing and boarding experts were invited to trial the product. Skiing on PERMA-SNOW™ comes far closer to the 'on snow' experience because of its softer texture and carpet covering. One description of the new product has been: "It looks like snow, it feels like snow, it skis like snow."

The traditional diamond-shaped brush matting will, in future, be made to order by Techmat 2000 Ltd who have manufactured the bristle matting for 17 years. Production will now concentrate on manufacturing the new ski carpet. The unveiling of PERMA-SNOW™ was at the Daily Mail Ski Show in Olympia, London, where it was displayed on the Techmat 2000 stand.

The Nike Group will be undertaking talks with the leading insurers to negotiate special rates for users of PERMA-SNOW™. The Ultimate Ski Slope Surface - The Safer Surface. Further news will appear in the next edition of Connections.

All enquiries regarding the Launch Weekend should be made to John Nike Leisuresport Ltd on 01344 789 000.
